An avenue for Orthopaedics training is thru the Master programme run by the UM, UKM, ?USM. Requirement is confirmation in govt service (with induction etc), completion of 3 years MOship (preferably in Orthopaedics), a good recommendation from your boss, and an interview. Not sure whether Ortho has pre-interview written test. No idea about Plastic. Quite limited locally I believe.

any idea about cardiothoracic or neurosurgery?
that means that i have to complete my 1 year of housemanship and 2 years of compulsory government service before qualifying for masters? There's no way that i can start my master straight aft med school?
Normally, are there strong competition for a place in our local university's master?
Do u know where i can gain access to the list of local and foreign masters which are recognised by MMC ?
I dont think that malaysian system works like the UK system where masters students will get salary as a doctor during the course of study, right?
Do you know how much do a orthopaedic surgeon or may be plastic surgeon earn in public and private hospital?
This may seem like a very naive question. What does a general surgeon do?they cant be involved in cardiac related surgey since they are not expert nor anything related to pastic or neurosurgery. What kind of operations do they perform? |

Housemanship is now 18 months and not 1 year, and no there is no way you can do your Masters immediately after med school. I would imagine that there would be strong competition for a place in our local university's Masters programmes.
As for General surgeons, there's still the rest of the body for them to work on -- lots of organs in the abdomen! Think appendectomy, hernia ops, cholecystectomy, etc..... |

USM has a neurosurgery masters course nowadays, ie. HO-MO-Master-Neurosurgeon. No need to go thru Gen Surgery. No comments on the 'advisability' of this move as I am quite divorced from the surgical field. No idea whatsoever on Cardiothoracic training options in Malaysia.
One year of housemanship and 3 years of MOship. HOship is not counted in your compulsory service of 3 years. It is thru HOship is now 18 months, ie you function clinically as a HO for 18 months in 5 depts. But administratively you are a MO after 1 year, ie entitled to MO benefits, like leave and claims and pay etc.
Master students in Malaysia continue to receive their pay while undergoing their course, but do not get the yearly salary increment. But don't think Masters is like medical school. You continue to serve as a doctor in the hospital, just like a non-Master going doc. study is 'part time' whenever you can.

Nowadays, how much is an housemanship doctor getting each month?and aft they become junior house offficer, how much of increment will there be?
what is kursus induksi?
Is it easy to get a job in private hospital or may be setting up your own private clinic?i think for a general practitioner,is hard to get job in private hospital. |

You can always depend on dobbs for great advice.
Anyway, if you're doing medicine for money, uhm... somehow, I think going into business is a faster and wiser way. |
