There is a gala fair for MCA this week-end. The bets are on: the odds are better for the Saviour against the Orgy; the incumbent is ignored by the bookies. It's liked a Sports-Toto. You will also be feasted, hundreds of tables, except the incumbent. No money, no Talk. Yet an old party veteran told there had never been any money politics in his 40 odd year membership history. He must be as blind as an owl. If you tell a fairy tale repeatively, it becomes a truth soon. What is politics without money and power, and sex!

Certainly I did not waste my time reading such news, which are never new at all. I spend most of my week reading Wall Street Journal, New York times, the Australian, China Daily, The times etc about the controversy between East & West. The US Think-Tank reckoned Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong also under-rated their respective currencies. Those septic tanks, however, failed to show that the Canadians and the Aussies also under-rated theirs, and their economies were in better shape than ours. The British pound has dropped against ours, and appeared to go down further. Good for those who are going there to study this year; bad for those who has just graduated and hoping to earn some pound to transfer their salaries back. Against such background, it's hard to put your money in currency investment. With business bleak, many of my friends are trying to earn some money from gambling in shares. Despite my lack of such acumen, I also made some small gains for my May trip to Toronto.

We trapped and caught a little rat last night. My maid attempted to release it in the neighbouring vacant land, but stopped by me. It would know how to sniff its way back to the house, though we had to guess how it manage to do that. In the past, I drove some distance away and released it, but my attempt was caught by others. "The good doctor released his rat in our vicinity!" Sure, it's not a friendly gesture. Once, I tried to spray its tail with some red paint, and then released it, so that his pack would recognise this "new" species as a terorist and destroy it among themselves. But the lead paint killed him before my release. My friends advised to drown the rat in a pail of water, and kept it in the cage, for the sun will kill it too, without personal effort. I was so passive, that it eventually died in the cage. All relgious teaching were against killing. However, rats are pest. Could you have compassion against a pest? Or could you find inter-connectedness with a rat? It's difficult even with one's sibling, what more with a rat?

Like a King Cobra, Dr. M spurts out his racial venom again. With a mighty Kris in the background, the demi god warned us to behave.
For the good of the country and people, we pray that the demi god would soon meet face his Judgement, and let us all live in peace. Good-bye soon!

Please read the comments of The Malaysian Insider, esp those by the Malays. The world has changed or is changing, except the mindset of Dr. M. He has forgotton he has been a PM. Sad, very sad indeed.

http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/index.php/malaysia/20988-perkasa-warns-non-malays-to-behave

The kopitian is full of gossips about the recent MCA erections. Sure, the courageous doctor has won, and the Party need to be renamed in his image. The Saviour had to flush his face in public WC. The incumbent has earned some respectable support, though he has lost. The cow dung saga will be recorded into our Malaysian history books; hopefully future generations would learn history in non-copycats ways.

As I grow older, I find it harder and harder to "behave" as expected. These old snakes are certainly no good role models for our future generations. The soil would no longer be wholesome for our saplings. The tiny dot below has just sent their own space satellite, though, in contrast, we have placed what you called a cosmo nought to teach Voyagers to play our marbles. For your saplings to grow well, place them in good ground with abundant sunlight. Don't regret - it's time to change.

I have forgotton that yesterday was April Fools' Day.

http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2010/03/31/real_april_fools

In the tradition of Aussie ex-Prime Minister, Bob Hawke, I drank many pints of "Fu**cking Hell" beer from Austria. In my drunken state, I rang up the Parliament to enquire whether I should be Malaysian first or Chinese first. The voice messages came: Press 1 for 1M; Press 2 for M1; Press 3 for Israel Consultancy; press 4 for Lim Kit Siang's; Press 5 for Nik Aziz; Press 6 for TDM Warning; Press 7 to return to UMNO. I was desperate to find out, so I kept pressing at every key, and each time they were either engaged or no one really bother to pick up and answer. Then I received an urgent SMS message: BEHAVE !

There were some curiosity seekers asking, "Which number to press for MCA or Gerakan?" Infact, I did look around. Even in my drunken state, I was aware that there was indeed no key reserved for them at all. Perhaps Press 7 would be appropriate, for it would be referred or re-directed.

I woke up this morning fresh and alert.
1 Malaysia is only a dream, a slogan for some who likes to shout. Infact, many educated people of the other races toyed with that idea.
It kept them intellectually active.

The fact is, this country is polarised not just across racial lines, but also between East & West, education and scholarships, employment etc etc. The Asia Pacific net reported that PM "tacit support for Perkasa" and his inability to "defend his 1M concept" when challenged by his deputy and aides, showed that he was not really serious about it at all. Read Malaysia's Dilemma:

http://asiapacific.anu.edu.au/newmandala/category/malaysia/

Remember President Barrack Obama won his presidency when he challenged for "CHANGE" . Maybe what has changed most is himself, not America. For 1M to work, the discriminary policies have to change. We can't change the race. It has nothing to do with whether one is proud of being a Malay, Chinese or Indian. With some intermarriages, one could be proud of being all three, and yet there would be no real change at all, even if one pretend to be very patroitic for not speaking one's own mother tongue. Dr. Khoo has to re-learn his history.

Not a client for the whole afternoon, despite it's the season for flu-liked illness and dengue fever. The medical centres and hospitals are over worked, esp in the infectious department. When a specialist colleague poked me and asked, "How come your other colleague are doing so fine?" Indeed I am getting a little too old fashioned for the modern age. I have to re-invent to earn more money, but I just can't follow the trend. Strange that an apatheist or atheist liked me could be prick by conscience, when the religious are comfortable with it. No wonder some have asked, what's the worth of conscience? How could it be measured, or compared? Frankly, though I am not rich, I have never suffered from the lack of it. The recent planned trip to Canada will cost a bit, and the retirement fund will need some extras to pay for medical insurances etc. Space travel is not in my Bucket List, so no such bill to worry about. I have overcome all these potential problems. Infact, I wasn't complaining at all, but just wondering what would happen when I retire, and perhaps with no standby desktop or computer to fill my time. It has become a "partner", and the real partner nag about it.
Sure, people can't be envious or jealous over some technology. It must be those sensuous e-mails my classmates forwarded to me. Why all these restlessness? It was a patient or more who requested to set an IV drip for treating depression? Or tiredness ? or Stroke? They thought only certain doctors were "specialised" in that. And even if I did, my magic will not be powerful enough for them to recover. Indeed I could justify: IV drip for hydration in flu-like illness or to keep up the BP or to twart the virus in Dengue etc etc. Add a little herbal here and there to show them how I learn to keep West meet East. Maybe a little psychodrama, as in Main Puteri, for my Malay patients. Or chant some Hindu prayers - I could upgrade it to sankscript or pali. Aha, registered myself under MOH to make it reputable. Paste a few more certificates around my clinic to give some air of learnedness. Better still be a sex therapists, afterall most of people's psychological problems are due to depressed sexual desires or anger etc, and my Freudian friend will testify it's validity. Anyway do first, and find the reasons, or philosophy later.

Where am I now? You see, how the unfocused mind flies. Fortunately, it's 4.30 pm, close clinic, and my good wife is waiting for me at home. The sleeping partner is always better than the desktop!

The Plume from Iceland's Volcanic Ash is reaching Newfoundland and the east coast of Canada, and may heat up the country. Bad news for Air Traveller, esp for me and my family and friends who plan to travel to Toronto in May, 2010. Hopefully there will be a few good rain and wind to disperse the cloud soon. My flight, via Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong, and Air Canada, was booked a month ago, and, fortunately, mine was insured.

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-04-19/volcano-ash-may-reach-canada-coast-today-u-k-met-office-says.html

Nature and man have become increasingly inseparable in the sense of common destiny, so we have to treat Nature with more respect than it deserved in the past. Our MOL need to be explored in its context. I take pride in writing that my old bungalow, built more than 25 years ago, was based on a green eco-concept - literally greens everywhere, inside and outside the house. The design concept was new at that time, copied and modified from an architect's house - creative copycats - and looked much better and easier to maintain than his.

This morning the papers reported that airports at Newfoundland was closed due to fog rather than volcanic ash. The ash cloud is moving towards UK, and NY.

http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/World/Story/STIStory_516682.html

Experts are still arguing on how safe to fly thru or near volcanic ash. Would you take your life to bet on it? Experts are now conducting test flights, as economic losses have gone into billions.

If you are having problems with regard to any question on flying, please ask my classmate, Captain Lim:

http://www.askcaptainlim.com./

It's a good blog, don't miss it, just because he's my classmate.

hi kh, my pilot friend says he will fly if airspace is open because they do that all the time thru Indonesia airspace with lots of volcanic mountains. If I really have to fly & there is no other option I would take the risk. Why because in Life there is no guarantee how long one can live, its a gamble. So I rather go out to enjoy the Moment rather than be a worry-wart.

It is desperately painful to see people die without having done anything to deserve it, and yet this is how lives end nearly always. We get old or we don't, we get cancer, we starve, we are battered, we get on a plane thinking we're going home but never make it. There are blessings and wonders and horrific bad luck and no guarantees. We like to pretend life is different from that, more like a game we can actually win with the right strategy, but it isn't.
Barbara Kingsolver (1955- ), American writer, "A Pure, High Note of Anguish," Los Angeles Times (23 September 2001)

anyway, wish you a safe pleasant trip

Ms45,
Thanks for wishing me well.
Flying thru volcanic mountains and thru volcanic ashes are two different stories. Pilots might liked to tell their heroic stories in mid air when they landed; it would be hell a lot of experiences to perform such devilish acts to enjoy the momemt.

There are many ways to enjoy the momemt. We laughed and almost choked ourselves when some politicians have the audacity to claim that they never imbibed (perhaps sipped) alcohol in their young days in UK, when the web clearly showed them with cans of beer. It was the work of cut-and-paste, we were told. At least we admired those who are honest to admit so. In our young days, we did a lot of silly things, but why pretended to be so holy. I remembered once I searched a web for "After Life". I answered all the querries truthfully, for instance, "Do you have lust in your thoughts?" Thou I have not committed adultery yet, I certainly have thoughts of lust, and I must confess, I delight in them. So I replied, "Yes". "Good, you are honest, but you have sinned." To another querry, I decided to answered, "No", not because I wished to lie, but just to follow the web's logic. "You lie". This was a double sin. I could not escaped in answering those questions to prop up my self image. To each and every questioned, I have indeed sinned. There is NO choice if I wish to go to heaven, I have to repent. But then those are the little sins, e.g. a little wine during dinner , plus a few dirty jokes, I really enjoyed all that, and, frankly, it will be dishonest of me to repent. Perhaps not now, but the momemt of dying, Pascal Wager's calculation. And, for Godsake, who is doing the Judgement, anyway. Are we not projecting our mundane mind into the Holy?

Please note that this is NOT to ridicule any religion, but to show how imperfect we are, and yet striving to be perfect and can never be so, except in our image. Remebered those priests who committed sexual misconduct over the ages, and yet could not changed their crooked ways. Do they ever feel sorry for others, or even for themselves? Paedopies among paediatricians or priests are the worst lots.

These days sex has gone crazy, even among students. They packed raped, even with consent, in their own class rooms, during school hours! And strange ways of attempting abortion! The word "sekolah" from Greek means "a place of leisure". So these youngsters took "leisure for learning" as sexual pleasure in the class. (This is after years of our sex education.) Their teachers used to be called "guru" (gu darkness; ru destroyer) is now called cik gu (Mr. Darkness).Besides gangsters and bullies in school are also on the increase. Social securities are getting from bad to worst, even just within your own compound. Parents are troubled not only by the school systems, but also burdened by the high tuition cost. Even two salaries might not be sufficient to meet their monthly ends, esp with the rising cost of goods. Quite a few of young men and women have little confidence in marriages - for the prospect did not appear favourable for them, esp for those who earned just enough to feed themselves.

Please read what Captain Lim wrote about Volcanic Ash:

To catch up with the latest craze, I have a confession to make. It's not about denial of beer binging, or sex in a hotel room, or some election promises. A lass, known by me, send me an invitation to join "Tubely". I always have a soft spot for them.

http://www.tubely.com/signin.php?rnd=1272524061&requestedpage=http%3A%2F%2Fprofilespace.tubely.com%2Fhome.php

You either accept or reject the offer to join. Since it come from a friend, I naturally accept. Then you fill in the details. And just before I send, I found all my friends' addresses are attached to it. They were all sucked into it. I quickly deleted all of them, and refused to send. Did some search on it. It's an on-line dating service! By Jo, some of my friends said they have already received "my invitation." So even without sending, the mails are all out! I am sure my friend suffered similar fate. My apologies for not being alert enough. Never, never, open any such mais.

Last night I watched Rachel Weisz's AGORA until well passed my usual sleeping time. It was, however, a good sedative for my spouse.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1186830/

Agora in ancient Greek means a "place of Assembly" or a market place, or in modern parlance, a Forum. The historical drama brought us immediately to the era of Roman Eygtian or Alexandrian stage in AD350. Raccchel acted as Hypatia (meaning the highest or supreme), was a mathematician, astronomist and philosopher, and above all a humanist or athesist (pagan). When she was confronted and challenged as a "non believer", she replied she believed in philosophy. And many a time, when she offered no ready "answers" to her querries, she admitted so, but she kept probing and discovering her path to the truth, unlike the religious bigots or bishops who quoted and killed on the authority of the Book. In this drama we observed the barbarities of religion in their early beginning, and even some today has yet to outgrown its primitiveness. Kindness and charity were conditional on accepting the new faith - that's the "miracle"!
In the end, she was literally skinned alive, tortured and stoned to death as a "witch".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypatia

My wife was a little upset when she offered her suitor her menstrual rags (or pad in our modern age). She remarked that it was "nothing beautiful" about carnal desires. The symbolism was amissed in our modernity. In that episode of turmoil, her menstrual rag was thrown away by her suitor, but picked up by her "slave" (also her student), whose fortune changed when he was converted to Christianity! In the movie, he suffocated her inorder to allow her to have an easy exit.
And we also observed how saints were made in the poltics of bloody religion.

This movie is highly recommended for those who love to study the philosophy of religion.

The Haute Cuisine at Le St. Armour was not new to me. We had partook such cuisine in Singapore French restaurant at more or less the same cost. There were a few surprises. The amuse bouche was exqisite. It was a starting entree to amuse the palate before the meal. It was chilled zucchini ( small cucumber) with some herbal seed. There are two different kinds of duck pate which was excellent. The soft goat cheese was excellent. The main course was pigeon, stuff with liver, which was the best pigeon ever tasted.

Chinese restaurants here are excellent. I like their beef and cod porridge, and lobsters fried mee. The first cost about C$6.25 per bowl; the second about C$20 each plate.

Had a good sleep at my daughter's rented fully furnished apartment, about 9500 sq ft. The rental was C$2100, incl management fees. It was located in the main city centre, not far from their hsopital, dare care, china town etc. The Canadian cities are fairly clean. We saw a lot of young street beggers! It's funny that the West kept regurgitating that China was a communist state. Canada appears more socialist than China, with all its welfare services! My daughter and grand daughter love staying here, because work and family life are much better; education is excellent, people are friendly.However, it's still not an environment that will be really our choice.

Have to rush to Niagara Falls today ....

Please allow me to share what I have recently composed:

NIAGARA FALL

At the Horseshoe, volumnious, voluptous downpour;
The magic bride veiled by the mist.
The raging rapids, the thunderous torrain beat up her charm.
Here, worshippers from all over the world, congregated;
Meditating on how best to capture her pristine majesty home.
Many, at ground, trapped the panorama in digital camera;
Others exerted some extra effort:
By boat, some approached the maid's bottom;
Or admired her splash from her sides;
Or canoe'd across both continents beyond the Fall;
Or flew freely liked the gulls.
At the Table Rock, the water glittered and glamoured;
Seductively bidding one to slide into her world.
At the Edge of Fall, life is felt the most and often amissed.
Life need not be breathless or burst;
Just breath and live ..., even at the edge.

I am writing from Lake Emerald, Yoho (Native Indian meaning wonder or awe) National Park. We rented a suite lodge, facing the clear emerald-coloured lake and overlooking the Rockies beyond. You could hear the sounds of whirling water and whispering wind. It was impossible to row the boat away from the boat house, as the current and wind was blowing in the opposite direction. One instantly become an amusing tourist attraction, as they were having fun watching the boat unable to leave the dock at all. Money was refunded, for boating was not possible. You could be chilled to the bone at about 8 C, with the breeze. I felt warmer as I strolled along the circuitous track along the lake, overlooking those endless gorgeous Rockies in their varied manifestations.There was a fireplace in every cottages, and we could have burnt half a fallen tree!It was good to read and sipped our glass of wine in its warm.

One was awed struck by the vast expanse of white at the Columbian Icefield, with vast expense of pines lining on both sides of the Highway, and the occasional glimpse of wild life passing by for their feeds.The snow was fast receeding.On attempting to ascend the Bow Summit thru some two feet thick of snow in my leather shoes, my daughter and son-in-law had to assisted me to waddle thru; imagined how many times I had fallen for it wastoo slippery.Fortunately, the path was rendered easier with many other hikers and tourists. The dream would not be possible without all of them. It took us half an hour each to reach our paradise and back. Watching the magnificient Lake Peyto from the height of Bow Summit was an experience in my life time! The global warming would gradually melted away from the glaciers. I knew for my age there would not be a second chance to view such pure land.

The triangular loop by road from Toronto to Montreal, Quebec and Ottawa and return was a very tiring one. The rest of the party suffered from jet lag, and staying a day each in each city, and with insomia, was sapping their energy away. Fortunately, my wife and I, older than them, had no such problem, even though I woke up early to walk around each city. The rush was because the boss was eager to rush back to his Time Sharing Resort at Berry (perhaps an hour drive to Toronto) within three days. There was a lot of traffic congestion in each cities, unlike Vancourer and the Rockies.

The mood of our first evening at Montreal was marred by the traffic standstill caused by the Ice Hockey competition. The host country won, and the Hockey hooligans went into frency spell, even banging our 12 seater. In Montreal we have visited an old church, not Notre Dame, for the rest was uninterested. We visited the so-called Olympic Village, with its spectacular design. It looked liked a "giant clam shell, with a high leaning tower." There was an adjacent velodrome and a Biodome for sports Medicine. The Botanical Garden was located just across the street.

Quebec was such a beautiful city and good French cusine which I have narrated. There was a big forest fire this week.

We are surprised that Ottawa, being the capital, was not a big city.The old majestic Parliament House, with the lights on at night, was enchanting. The Empire Grill Hotel nearby was equally attractive. The Tutip Festival was one of our desired goal, turned out very disappointing, for the flower in display was far too few.We had a leisuresely walk around the banks of Rideau River and Canal.

The following day we visited a Vineyard and bought some wine. then we proceeded to our ultimate destination - Niagara Fall.We also visited the Botanical Garden at Hamilton. there were more tulips here than in the fare, but the roses were not in season for bloom. The hot weather at 30 C robbed the fun away. However, the evening was well compensated by some fine cusine, esp three types of cusine from Alaskian Crab at a Chinese Restaurant at Richmond, a chinese residential area. At other restaurants in Toronto, we have other good food , such as lobsters, Vietamese beef noodles etc.

The following week we flew to Vancourer. Visited the popular and beautiful Harbour and the Steam and Clock Tower at Gastown nearby.
We saw a beautiful cruise docked there, and some water planes, ferrying people around. A few days later some accidents occured, and some people died. We then visited Stanley Park, on the opposite side of the Harbour. Saw a white whale in their small aquarium, saw some beautifully carved Totem Poles, and many old tress.

The following day, we ferried across to Virginia Island in our rented car from Vancourer. The ferry ride cost us C$200 plus for car and passengers. It's a multistoried ferry for both automobiles and passengers, and included even some children's playground. The sea journey lasted one and half hours each way, with beautiful scenaries
along the coast. We spent almost the whole day at Butchard Garden; entrance fees was another C$110 plus, but it was money worth spending. In the past, this place was an ugly discarded limestone quarry, but had been transformed into one of the world's top and best garden, and also designated as Canada's National Historic site. The flowers,esp the tulips, were in full bloom, except the roses. It was well designed and landscaped.

We also visited the Museum of Anthropology within the compound of University of British Columbia. We spent about two hours visiting the multiple galleries. The Chinese Restaurants here served very good seafood, esp the fresh river shrimps, and grouper; pigeons were well sauted and fried. The meals for four was about C$100.

There are a lot of chinese in Vancourer, much more than Toronto and Calgary. Even the banks, and police have sign boards written in Chinese.It is not surprising that this place is voted as one of the best to migrate or retire. Canada is really a bicycle-friendly and eco-conscious country. Lots of bicyles in city centre and the
Rockies, with provisions for parking; passengers have right of way, when crossing in proper traffic lights.

We then rushed for our evening train from Vancourer to Jasper, travelling at economic class at C$120 plus each. The Railway staff were all very friendly, gave us free bags for our shopping elsewhere.
The coached travelled at about 60 km/hr, so from 8 pm at Vancourer to 3.30 pm the following day we arrived at Jasper. (It would take four days to reach Toronto for the train journey.) It was so beautiful to watch Vancourer night sky and the Rockiers in its transparent sky deck. We befriended quite a few passengers in this deck. A Canadian asked me whether I have heard of Norman Bethume.I replied that more Chinese knew about this famous surgeon than canadians themselves. Unfortunately he was a communist, and the canadian government was not keen to capitalise on him to promote bi-lateral good relations with China. I met another lass from China, chemistry post graduate, migrated here with her family, but degree not recognised, so she had to start her university course all over again.

At Jasper, we rented another car to take us to our hotel in this small townlet. Lake Patrica was not far from our hotel.

We began our journey from Jasper National Park in Alberta, to Yoho National Park, visiting all the main attraction listed in the tourist guide. When it's not snowing or raining, we went tracking, visiting canyon, gorges, waterfalls, watching wild wife, incl bears, moose and deers (caribou) in the distance.
