my dad disgnosed with stage4 of HCC (hepato cellular carcinoma/hepatoma).
all hospitals in malaysia (government or private) has no treatment to offer him unless just a palliative treatment.
but there's a naturalpathic doctor comes to us and offer us to go for a clinical trial. it might works, it might won't.
should we go for it just waiting to die... any opinion or suggestion

thanks palmdoc...

the naturopathic doctor approached us thru a fren of dad. he was recommended actually, and seems we left no hope for medical treatment, we grabbed his offer.

he came far away from KL with his doctor's bag (like the oldies style), he brought a lot of medicines and medical equipments. after he went thru some medical reports from the hospitals, he left some medicine to bring up dad's immunization as a start for the treatment. we just need to jap dad everyday with tht medicine which is imported from russia. bill settled by my dad's fren at rm1k (he told us). so we pay zero at his 1st visit. he'll arrange the next medical supply to be sent to our house later. he got back to KL immediately, hurried for his nxt appointment.

he then contacted me thru email, giving me a things-to-do list. got to bring dad for blood test, buy a BP machine, weighing machine, termometer, etc... he said i got to monitor dad and report to him 2-3times/daily. he'll advice me what to do if dad's vital signs don't look good. he always calls/smses/emails me. he was so caring and nice you know. i had never met such a person.

we didn't see any problem with the jap. but frm the start dad's MM BP always bellow 80 and getting lower each day. the naturopathic doctor instructed me to go the pharmacy and buy normal saline and dextrose to be put on dad for some amount and time... my aunty (a nurse) helped us to do the procedure. dad looked ok the next day.

after 10 injections of tht russia medicine, due to dad's liver complication (also, i thnink), he's always in pain and hard to sleep at night, and he's getting weaker. the naturopathic doctor asked me to bring dad for blood transfussion in gov hospital near to us but due to dad's HB=8, the gov hospital only do at below 7 and even dad's at 7 still there's a lot of procedures should be done before the transfussion.

the naturopathic doctor said tht procedure is easy to be done in KL. so dad said why nt we just go to KL. the naturopathic doctor didn't want us to go to KL actually, a lot of reasons he gave. his hospital don't hv enuf bed, his hospital GM is an indian, bla bla bla....

dad insists want to go to KL and treated near him. he'll arrange to put dad in private hospital in Klang Valley. one of the speciallist is his fren, and he'll look after my dad if his nt around (cz his schedule is so tight )

i need to bank in some money into his daughther's account (who is arranging his work) before fly to KL. to buy medicines and etc. from the airport he sent his driver to pick us up and met him at the private hospital. dad checked by the speciallist (very famous one in his speciality), then admitted to the hospital for the so called treatment. i was there too. the speciallist told me tht it might works and might not. we understand tht.

dad then arranged for some procedures under the speciallist to check on heart bla bla... everythings in a good condition. the naturopathic doctor then called me to discuss tht the medicine price has increase and i need to give some extra money.... bla bla..

the next day we started the 1 dose (1jap). side effect was ichiness, dihydrated, .... but the red spot on dad's chest getting blur and smaller... 2nd day 1jap, dad looked ok.

3rd day, he gave dad 2 japs, dad can't stand the headache. he requested to have 1jap nxt day. i had to fight for 1jap with the doctors. dad look tired. always on bed. after 5day in there, we flu back home. dad was weak. at home, i did the japping. straight on his stomach. it's just a small needle but i'm nt a doctor, so scarry...

a day at home, dad got diarrhea, bad one, non-stop. mid night brought dad to emergency (private hosp). admitted. the physician discuss with me to stop the jap, he said it brings no good but harming dad's body. i stop'd japping him. i told the naturopathic doctor we stop it, he agreed, he suggested to do liver dialysis on dad, i refuse. dad continued diarrhea for 3days. then stop. discharged. he's getting weaker each day. he didn't eat much.

the naturopathic doctor will try to send dad to oversea, he'll looking for the place. all i need to do is to get a recommendation letter from gov hospital to go for oversea treatment. but dad requested to go to the gov hospital the next day coz he felt so weak. went to emergency, admitted, had been on drip for glucose. his glucose just 4 at the time.

i m checking in the internet and found (less than 24hrs before dad passed away) tht the way of japping tht medicine is nt they way the naturopathic doctor did on dad. the medicine causing the toxicity level inside the body getting higher and might go to brain and cause unconcious.

you will be shock if i tell you the drug tht had been jap onto my dad's stomach for at least 7-8 vials... it is Filgrastim (G-CSF) and that naturopathic doctor usually call it as NEUPOGEN.

the naturopathic doctor is so pathatic... he don't even sms to say his condolences. until a month, i call him because he said he'll buy any unused medicines/equipments and he also supposed to return rm3k plus because we canceled to buy the next neupogen a wk before dad passed away. but until now, he doesn't contact me as usually did before... NO MORE BUSINESS right....

i feel like i have been cheated by him, should i lodge a police report???

what should i do

Sorry to hear that - my condolences. You could share your experiences here in this forum about your encounter with this "naturopathic doctor" , but please omit specifics like names, addresses etc to keep things anonymous.

Hi, just be careful of the goood Samaritans. This morning one of my patients came in depressed. A 70 year old lady living with her paralysed husband. A stranger in her forties offered to help "cured" her (the old lady's) husband of his paralysis. In the course of five or six sessions the stranger left the old lady RM15,000 more or less poorer! That's all the savings this old couple have. So, clinical trial or not, make sure it's not a trial to extract whatever there is left of you.

When you mean CLinical trial it refers to a proper scientifically conducted study.
There are clinical trials for advanced heptocellular carcinoma, just that they are not conducted by Naturopaths - I am dubious of his intentions. "Individual experiements" are not proper clinical trials.
